Supports for multinational companies in Ireland with energy costsThe Irish Government has put in place several supports to help businesses operating in Ireland mitigate the impact of the severe increase in energy prices being experienced in Europe following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Multinational companies within IDA Ireland’s client portfolio can access:
The Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme
- Available to companies experiencing a 30% or more increase in their natural gas and/or electricity costs.
- Support is available for up to 40% of eligible costs up to a maximum of €10,000 per month. This was increased to 50% to a maximum of €15,000 per month for claims from 1 March 2023.
- The Scheme is being administered by the Revenue Commissioners. Further details are available on Revenue’s website. Applications for this scheme are made directly with Revenue.
The Ukraine Enterprise Crisis Scheme
Stream 2- Available to companies that qualify as energy intensive businesses (i.e., those whose energy costs were at least 3% of turnover in 2021 or 6% in 2022).
- Under Stream 2, qualifying clients can receive grant support for up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of €4m.

Stream 3
- Stream 3 is available to companies operating in the microelectronics manufacturing sector (NACE 2611) that have experienced a 50% increase in energy cost per wafer as a percentage of total costs in 2022 compared to 2021.
- Qualifying clients can receive grant support for up to 40% of eligible costs to a maximum of €50 million.
- Applicants must demonstrate climate action commitments, including a site level Climate Action Plan.

placed to remain competitive in a low carbon and high-tech global economy.
IDA has a range of supports available which can help clients at various stages along the
sustainability journey, from developing an initial Climate Action Plan to capital investment
to drive decarbonisation. IDA client companies can discuss sustainability supports in detail
with their designated IDA client relationship manager.
